Seo registry, a Minnesota-based company, is planning to apply for a .ARTIST gTLD. And in order to be as comprehensive as possible in its coverage of the chosen subject matter, the company is using a different approach to its application than what has been seen so far on new gTLD initiatives.[/FONT]

.ARTIST would be requested along with several derivatives. In the latest version of its draft applicant guidebook for new gTLDs, ICANN has included a provision for IDN derivatives of a string to be requested along with the ASCII application. The people behind .ARTIST seem to have taken this a step further and wish to be awarded all derivatives of the term, be they IDN versions or simply different language versions in ASCII characters.

It's doubtful ICANN intends its IDN derivative rule to be used in this way.
